Furniture Hub Now Uses E1 HMR Board: Safer, Moisture-Resistant Furniture at the Same Price

Furniture Hub has switched to E1 HMR board for its furniture. E1 is an internationally recognised low-formaldehyde-emission grade, and HMR means High Moisture Resistant. The result is furniture that is safer for indoor air and holds up better in Nepal's monsoon humidity. Our prices stay the same. There is no price hike on any product.

What Is E1 HMR Board?

E1 HMR board is an engineered wood panel made from wood fibres or particles bonded with moisture-resistant resin and pressed under high heat and pressure. Two labels matter:

  • E1 is the emission class. It means the board's formaldehyde release stays within the strict limit set by European standards (EN 717-1 and EN 120 test methods). It is one of the cleanest grades commonly used in furniture worldwide.
  • HMR stands for High Moisture Resistant. The board is made with moisture-resistant resin and treatment so it swells and warps far less than ordinary boards when humidity rises.

Why Furniture Hub Made the Switch?

We have been building furniture in Kathmandu since 2014, from Nepal's largest furniture factory in Balaju Industrial Area. Our customers have always asked two things: "Is it safe for my family?" and "Will it last in our weather?" E1 HMR board answers both questions better than the boards we used before.

1. Lower formaldehyde emission for healthier indoor air

Bedrooms, kids' rooms and closed apartments hold fumes longer than open spaces. Low-emission boards reduce the chemical smell of new furniture and the amount of formaldehyde released into your room. This matters most for:

  • Children's beds and study tables
  • Wardrobes and storage beds where clothes sit in closed spaces
  • Small flats and rooms with limited ventilation
  • Families with elderly members or anyone sensitive to strong odours

2. Better performance in Nepal's humidity and monsoon

Kathmandu's monsoon, damp kitchens, and bathrooms nearby bedrooms put furniture under constant moisture stress. Ordinary boards absorb water, swell at the edges, and lose their shape. HMR boards resist this, so your wardrobe doors stay aligned and your shelves stay flat for longer.

3. Strong screw holding and a smooth finish

Engineered boards have a consistent, dense structure with no knots or hollow gaps. That gives a smooth surface for laminates and veneers, clean edges, and dependable screw holding for hinges and fittings.

4. Quality at the same price

This is the part we are most proud of. We upgraded the material without raising the price. The same rates, the same designs, a better board inside.

E1 HMR Board vs Other Boards and Plywood

Performance depends on brand, thickness and glue quality. The point is not that other materials are always poor, but that unlabeled boards give you no emission guarantee, while E1 does.

Which Furniture Is Made With E1 HMR Board?

E1 HMR board is ideal for carcass and panel work such as wardrobes, storage beds, TV units, shoe racks, study tables, kitchen and storage cabinets, and shelving. Furniture Hub continues to use solid wood, veneers, laminates, metal and stone (such as quartz tops on dining sets) where each material fits best.

How to Care for E1 HMR Furniture

Good care adds years to any furniture:

1. Wipe spills quickly. HMR resists moisture but is not waterproof. Do not leave standing water on edges.

2. Seal cut or drilled edges if you modify the piece at home.

3. Keep rooms ventilated. Fresh air also helps any new-furniture smell fade faster.

4. Avoid direct, constant water contact, such as placing it against a leaking wall.

5. Clean with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap. Skip harsh chemicals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does E1 mean in furniture board?

E1 is the formaldehyde emission class for wood-based panels. It means the board's emission stays under the strict limit set by European standards. It is a low-emission grade, not a zero-formaldehyde one.

What does HMR stand for in HMR board?

HMR stands for High Moisture Resistant. These boards use moisture-resistant resin so they swell and warp less in humid conditions.

Is E1 HMR board safe for bedrooms and kids' rooms?

E1 boards are widely used in bedroom and children's furniture because of their low formaldehyde emission. Keeping the room ventilated, especially when furniture is new, is always a good practice.

Is HMR board waterproof?

No. HMR board is moisture resistant, not waterproof. It handles humidity and occasional splashes much better than standard board, but it should not sit in water.

Will Furniture Hub increase prices after switching to E1 HMR board?

No. Furniture Hub is keeping the same prices. You get the upgraded board at the rates you already know which are quoted in our website.

Is E1 HMR board better than plywood?

It depends on the grade of each. E1 HMR gives a verified low-emission rating, a very smooth finish and consistent density. Plywood quality varies a lot by brand and glue. For most indoor furniture, E1 HMR is an excellent, reliable choice.

Where can I see E1 HMR board furniture in Kathmandu?

Visit the Furniture Hub showroom at Chappal Karkhana Chowk, Kathmandu.

The Bottom Line

Switching to E1 HMR board means cleaner indoor air, stronger resistance to Nepal's humidity, and furniture that keeps its shape longer, all at the same price you already trust. Better material, no extra cost.
